Floridians want more work-from-home opportunities, data show – WWSB

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – The job market has changed drastically during the COVID-19 pandemic. Businesses had to shift overnight from having employees at the office to working from home, because of lockdowns.
Now, in 2022, some facets of business life are returning to normal. No more mask mandates or vaccine requirements in major U.S. cities.
The work-from-home trend, however, is sticking around and it’s changing the way people search for jobs.
“We are seeing three big trends in search over the past year,” said Google Trends expert Alex Joseph. The top three national job searches are real estate agents, flight attendants and a notary.
“The No. 1 searched job trend in Florida is actually how to become a notary,” Joseph said.
He says people are also searching for jobs that:
“The thing we’ve seen grow exponentially over the past two years, is remote working. Someone living in Seattle could be working here in Sarasota or in Manatee counties working full time, said CareerSource Suncoast Public Information Officer, Curt Preisser.
If you are unfamiliar, a notary as defined by the National Notary Association, is a state government-appointed official who serves “the public as an impartial witness in performing a variety of official fraud-deterrent acts related to the signing of important documents,” the association says.
Joseph says becoming a notary is a great side hustle, or full-time job if you meet the requirements.
According to a NNA survey from 2020, the most recent data available, full-time notaries can make anywhere from $2,000 to $7,500 a month.
Part-timers can pull in anywhere between $1,000 and $500 a month. And that’s money earned from home.
“We are seeing that people are really looking for flexibility in the jobs that they are searching for,” Joseph said. “They are also looking for things that are potentially higher paying than the jobs they have had in the past.”
It’s easier than ever to look for a new position too.
Joseph walked us through how to start a search. Start on Google. Search: “jobs near me,” and narrow your search using filters like salary, degree, part-time, full-time, and so on.
