Painesville Municipal Court Judge Paul R. Malchesky to serve as chair of Lake County Notary Commission – News-Herald.com
Presiding Lake County Common Pleas Court Judge Karen Lawson has appointed Painesville Municipal Court Judge Paul R. Malchesky to serve as chair of the Lake County Notary Service Commission.
Malchesky will oversee the notary classes, tests and filing of complaints and violations with the Ohio Secretary of State, according to a news release.
The Lake County Bar Association is one of the few in the state that is designated by the Secretary of State to administer classes and testing required to become a notary, according to the release.
An Ohio Notary Public administers oaths required or authorized by law, takes and certifies depositions, and acknowledgments of deeds, mortgages, liens, powers of attorney, and other instruments of writing. In taking depositions, a notary public has the power that is by law vested in judges of county courts to compel the attendance of witnesses and punish them for refusing to testify.
The Bar Association purchased Go To Webinar for virtual meetings which allowed the Bar to serve applicants virtually during novel coronavirus closures and applicants in Lake, Geauga, Cuyahoga, Ashtabula, Fulton, Mahoning, Trumbull, Holmes, Lucas and Knox counties.
Malchesky was elected Painesville Municipal Court Judge in November 2019.
